See the WordPress FAQ-Tastic Plugin in action!
This page demonstrates how the plugin works. A list of questions is displayed at the top with a list of answers below. At the bottom of the page is an area where a user can ask a new question.
So… Any questions?
FAQ-Tastic is a plugin for WordPress to help people easily create and manage FAQs.
With FAQ-Tastic, it’s easy to create multiple FAQs for different sections.
The plugin is able to create either single page FAQs, like the one you’re currently reading OR an index page of questions with links to separate pages!
The plugin has a ratings system to enable users to vote on the usefulness of an answer.
The CSV export feature makes it easy to download all the questions into one file. Very useful for any Internet Marketer wanting to find “the biggest question” and build a quick and simple flycatcher page.
This WordPress plugin is extremely useful for anyone looking to build an authority site!
There are 2 parts to using the FAQ-Tastic plugin in WordPress.
Firstly, you have to “activate” the plugin – the same way you would do for all WordPress plugins. If you’re unsure, you can read the installation instructions for FAQ-Tastic.
After installing and activating the plugin you will need to create a “Question group”. This helps you identify your group of questions – tip: keep it descriptive but short and remember what you’ve called it.
Afterwards, make a new page and then add the following into the page:
[faq summary *groupname*] – for a summary of questions.
[faq list *groupname*] – the questions and answers (Simple only).
[faq ask *groupname*] – the form for asking questions.
Note: *groupname* should be replaced with whatever you called your Question Group.
Once you’ve published, you will now have a new page with a textarea where you or your users can add new questions!
Yes it is! The FAQ-Tastic plugin comes with an Options tab that allows you to control a variety of features such as the “Thank You” and “Email” messages.
Maybe. The first thing to check is that your theme has the <?php wp_head(); ?> function inside your header.php file.
Here’s how you can check and fix your theme:
<?php wp_head(); ?>
If there *is* a <?php wp_head(); ?> in your header.php file, then there’s something else wrong. Please contact us to let us know and we’ll see what we can do to help you.
The FAQ-Tastic plugin is FREE – just like WordPress!
We think people should be able to build better sites easily. We like helping people and aim to make it simpler to create authority sites.
Please remember that we can’t do this without your support – we value your feedback and comments to help us improve our plugins. Any links you make also show us that you care. And any donations we receive will help us to build new plugins that will, again, make building an excellent website much easier to do!
Yes, you can add a variety of tags like the anchor link, like this one which leads back to the Knowledge Constructs homepage.
We’re very sorry. This is our fault and we are currently working on putting the user guides together! We didn’t realise people would be using the plugin so soon.
The how to guides will be up very shortly. Sign up for our Newsletters and we’ll let you know when they’re available.
Yes, it’s very easy to re-order questions in FAQ-Tastic and you just “drag & drop” the questions!
Simply go to the Manage/FAQ-Tastic admin area in WordPress, and click the “Questions & Groups” tab.
Click into the Question group you want to re-order and just click and hold on any question, drag it to where you want it and drop it!
When you refresh your page of questions, you’ll see that your questions have now been re-ordered!
We’d love to add more functionality like the Captcha to FAQ-Tastic. Unfortunately, development on the FAQ-Tastic plugin has had to be put on hold.
This is because the FAQ-Tastic plugin was commissioned by Knowledge Constructs but we decided to release it to the general WordPress community as it’s something we felt we needed to give back and share. We had to draw a line on what it could do mainly because each bit that was developed meant the plugin would cost more to build (test and tweak!).
Knowledge Constructs is currently a 1 man army – so this basically means it’s development coming out of a (i.e. my) restricted budget. There are plans to build more plugins, so unfortunately this means that funding for FAQ-Tastic has had to stop (for the moment).
Any contributions towards the FAQ-Tastic plugin fund would be welcome. We’d put it to good use as there’s quite a bit more that we know would make this plugin awesome! Obviously, contributions are optional but we’d really appreciate any financial help as there’s a whole load of exciting plugins that we’d love to build for you!
The Ratings link error in FAQ-Tastic has now been resolved. Simply download the latest version of this (correct as of version 0.9) and upgrade to rectify this issue.
What specifically is the problem with the links generated by FAQ-Tastic? This question and answer demonstrate how effectively FAQ-Tastic can generate the links in other character sets ;) .
If you look at the Creative Commons (CC) license at the bottom of the FAQ-Tastic page, you’ll see that you can’t sell FAQ-Tastic by itself or as part of a package. This plugin has been released with a view to being freely available to the WordPress community.
What you can charge for is your services. So if you create a site with WordPress and install FAQ-Tastic on behalf of a client, then you are not charging for the plugin – you are simply charging for your time in setting up and configuring the FAQ-Tastic plugin.
Knowledge Constructs has no issues with people using installing FAQ-Tastic on behalf of other people. We hope that it helps our users create new and exciting business opportunities. As long as your wording is such that you state the plugin is free (CC – free to share & distribute) and have a link to our site (CC – Attribution), then go ahead – create as many sites as you need to!
The easiest way of adding a link to your answer is to use HTML anchor tags within the Answer textarea in the FAQ-Tastic admin screen. So for example, (if you’re not used to HTML) you wanted to make a link to Knowledge Constructs like this, then you’d simply add the code:
<a href=”http://knowledgeconstructs.com”>Knowledge Constructs</a>
You can copy and paste the above code and just amend the part between the quote marks (i.e. http://knowledgeconstructs.com) to change the destination URL. Then amend the text of the link by changing the bit that says “Knowledge Constructs”.
At the moment there isn’t a way of making FAQ-Tastic appear only on the pages that have the FAQ. This is an issue that a great deal of WordPress plugins currently suffer from and we’ve already identified it as a major issue.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a standard for plugins (at the moment) but we are working hard on creating our own to ensure that all our future plugins conform to a certain quality level.
It’s not possible to add a nickname to the questions but it’s a good idea! We’ve noted this and I’ve added it to the wishlist.
Plans for AJAXifying the reader interface is a great idea. We’re currently looking to update FAQ-Tastic in a number of ways so look out for that!
If you couldn’t find the answer to your question, then just ask us using the form below:
1 – Notification of when your question has been answered. (Optional)
2 – Optional link back to your website.
