Internet Marketing & WordPress: Nancy Andrews Was Right – Forget Social Networking
Written by Zain on April 26th, 2008{ 28 comments }
Just a quick post about something I’ve been meaning to test on WordPress for a couple of weeks now. The idea comes from Nancy Andrews LiveBlueprints.com vNews (non affiliate link) on 7th April 2008 which looked really interesting:
“Blog posts work *REALLY* quickly. Forget Social Media”.
I’m going to summarise the essence of what she said in the vNews: basically, Social Media like Facebook and all of the other community type Web 2.0 sites aren’t really viable as Internet Marketing tools. It’s a controversial position but one also echoed by Michel Fortin in his excellent post “Is Facebook A Viable Marketing Tool?“.
Now, I’m not a natural Marketer – I’m willing to admit that – although I do happen to think that they might be right on this point.
Why?
Because here’s the proof that I’ve just found out for myself which I’ve screengrabbed for you:
Points to note:
- Specific keyword search term for “faq-tastic product launch formula”
- Google indexes my blog post in just 20 minutes!
- Both my earlier blog post on the FAQ-Tastic Product Launch Formula for beginners and also another article I’ve written hit positions #1 and #2
Now, ask yourself – how long does it take to do video and then start getting people onto things like Facebook so you can start marketing to them? Quite a bit of time to spread the message, right? Well, as you can see here, I’ve managed to get the word out about my last blog post in a very short space of time. Why? Because Google loves blogs and it loves fresh content.
Why do you think I’m aiming for the blog market? It may be Web 1.0 but I’m thinking of taking it to being “Web 1.0 version 2.0″
I’d just like to say “Thanks” to all the gurus for moving onto Web 2.0 – the market for 1.0 (which still works, btw) is now clear for the likes of… well, ME!
= = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Here it is again btw – just after I published this blog post and you can see that Google has indexed my site in just 1 MINUTE!
So… just goes to confirm my suspicions that blogging is a *really* great tool. I LOVE WORDPRESS!

Awesome post. Thanks for the info it’s very interesting because a lot of people also told me Web 2.0 is the next best marketing method I always use sites like Digg to index my websites quickly, but from my experience Digg takes hours, so from your little research blogging is clearly the fastest way to index a website.

Search engines will always love fresh informaiton. I could be wrong here but isn’t the big thing on web2.0 is that it is interactive. To me that is what leaving a comment is all about. Interacting with the author. Maybe its just me but blogs still rock.

I never enjoyed social networking because ok, maybe it was supposed to be good for business but man was it annoying. It’s really just more work in the end.And now there is proof doesn’t work as well as simply updating one’s website? Good enough for me.

I never got the concept of Web 2.0 and never liked it because that traffic in my experience is poorly monetized. Visitors coming from search engines and regular subscribers are best for me because I can anticipate their behavior and I know what to offer them – that’s what they are looking for. Because they know why they come, right?

Social Networking is EXTREMELY powerful. But you have to know what you are doing with it. It’s a very easy way to build Brand Awareness for your company. Sure most who are dabbling in Affiliate Marketing are wasting their time with the Big Social Networking sites, but for legitimate business entities it’s a great tool.

Social networking sites are really very powerful. The monetization options are far greater than a blog. Take twitter for example. Using just one feature like twitter search you can get thousands of customers looking for something. Just search their updates. As simple as that, you need to know what you can do with the websites. WordPress is awesome yes interms of SEO its the best blogging software around. Getting indexed quick may be required for blogs but its not needed for social netowrk, it gets popular mostly by direct invites or word of mouth

Online affiliate marketing can be defined in just one sentence – It is the sharing of income between merchants and salespeople on the internet. The income is divided on the basis of the performance of the salespeople. This is measured usually in the form of sales figures, number of clicks, subscriber or registration volume, or some hybrid model.

I agree that Google loves blog since it gives fresh content. I have used social sites for a certain keyword but I did not check whether Google indexed it after a minute or so. I checked it after a few hours and I found my bookmark on first page as well.
Thanks for the post, made me think of where to put more effort.

The title the name of the URL has to be the same. Or th same warding. It’s the best if the content is with keyword. Google will cash your content even faster. You need to have a unique content.
Very nice site you have

To a certain point i agree with your scathing attack on the value in social media.
However it does have its value which is that social media spreads your web presence a lot broader than a single blog post or ping excercise ever could.
In my view Blogging is the content and social media is the advertising means.
I also LOVE wordpress and have done for some time. Its strength is its versatility.
Thanks for the insight.
