Hi Claire,

Blimey… semi-static is *extremely* old. I’d recommend you use a “Sticky Post”. Here’s how:

Write your post.

Save it.

Go to the Posts main screen and use the “Quick Edit” link.

Click on “Make this post sticky”.

The semi-static was basically a pre-cursor to sticky posts. It was “Sticky Posts” before it even existed. Thankfully, someone must’ve paid attention to the benefits and built it in. I’d recommend you do it the easy way!

Hi! You wrote about the semi-static front page several years ago, so I don’t know if you still worry about this kind of thing. But I am trying to implement the techinques you described and am running into some problems. It seems to me like wordpress overrides whatever text or code I use for the page I have designated as “posts” and just posts the blog entries.
I’m not very fluent with wordpress. In fact, trying to get this semi-static thing to work is my first foray into coding. Anyway, I’d love some advice if you get a chance.

The problem is, search engines will see that as two different urls. So, we need to eliminate one of them with nofollow. We would all like to think the “bots” are smart enough to know the difference, but probably not.

The amount of people that have asked me recently about setting google as their homepage!! Simply go to http://www.igoogle.org.uk and click ‘set google as homepage’ – how difficult can it be, duhh??

Hi Zain,

I may be a a newbie and…

I think I’ve done everything this post and the previous one call for.

Like Scott, I’m confused about the same steps he mentions.

In particular, “5. Set “Posts Page” to whichever page you created above.”

What is meant by “whichever page you created above”?

I’m using the is_frontpage() plugin.

For now, I’m on the Kubrik theme.

I inserted the latest PHP code just after the DIV tag for “narrowcolumn” (Main Index Template)

I modified that code so is_frontpage() replaces is_home()

Still, don’t see the Sniplet make it into the page.

Any ideas are most welcome

Have you got this working on WP2.3 as yet?

When I was trying to follow your instructions above the following section seemed to have changed and I have no idea what to do instead:
Setting Up The Semi-Static Page

1. Click on Options
2. Click on Reading
3. Set “Front Page Displays” to “A static page”
4. Important: *Leave* “Front Page” well alone and set it to “- Select -” if it already isn’t.
5. Set “Posts Page” to whichever page you created above.
6. Hit the “Update Options” button

Any thoughts?
