Internet Marketing: WordPress, SEO, Google Indexing & Splogs
Written by Zain on May 29th, 2008{ 48 comments }
If you read my post called “Internet Marketing & WordPress: Nancy Andrews Was Right – Forget Social Networking“, then you’ll know that geting indexed in Google is extremely fast if you’re using WordPress or some other blogging tool to get your pages (and site) re-indexed quickly.
And I mean *really* quickly. Those of you that remember, will know that it only takes a couple of minutes and Google go through your site, re-index and you can rank well for your keyword terms (if you’ve written your content properly, that is!)
Well… I now tend to check my site when I’ve done a post as it’s pretty amusing to see how quickly I can get my pages indexed. And I’m loving it when it does it well.
For example, the WordPress Plugin Review on the WordPress LinkSync (aka Blogroll Sync) plugin that I wrote on about an hour ago has already been indexed.
That’s amusing in itself.
But here’s something funnier…
[SinglePic not found]
Yup… yet again, you can see I’m already in the index in less than an hour but look at the positioning. Doing a search for the keyword “WP LinkSync” brings the Knowledge Constructs post about the plugin at #3.
And who is at position #4 in Google? That’s right: DCoda Ltd – the company that actually built and created the plugin! Sorry guys!
So, what’s interesting about these results?
Well, good as I am at ranking, I still can’t beat the sploggers. If you notice at the number #1 and #2 position is a blog site using the first couple of lines of my post and the complete title. What’s interesting to me here is that they’ve not even used a full paragraph, or even all of the keywords for “wp linksync” and they’re still ahead of my blog post (for the moment). I’m pretty sure over time, that will get fixed.
For you Internet Marketers out there, what does this mean?
Well, have you considered what it would mean to start writing about your competitors? I mean *really* writing about them and having high quality, contextually relevant content appearing in the search engines! Wouldn’t that be a great bit of traffic to be getting?
Thankfully, at Knowledge Constructs we know how to do this type of thing (“Oops, I did it again!”). Great ideas are in abundance here (as well as the skills to help you get ranked well). And it’s actually really easy to do!
If you’re a beginner and new to search engine optimization and WordPress, then you might want to check our very useful “how-to” guide on optimizing WordPress for SEO, written for beginners. It’s *SO* useful, I might go and re-read it just so I can work out how to beat those darn splogs!

Very interesting the fact of being ahead of the real company that created the plugin! It’s awesome hehehe
I was in wordpress.com and it was very easy to get visitors from google… But I changed to wordpress.org (that’s to say, I downloaded the code and I installed it in a hosting of mine), and now it’s not so easy to get traffic from google… hehehe My description/keywords and so on are ok, but it’s not the same as being in *wordpress.com*.
Anyway, I’ll write more and more to get a better PR and more visitors hehehe
Take care and see you around! Nice post!

great article. I use wordpress on my own site and have noticed the same thing.
a) My new posts are indexed literally within minutes of publishing it
b) I only have a pr3 yet I rank on the first page of google against some of the larger sites
to mike: its not a matter of using wordpress.com instead of your own domain, you can download wordpress from wordpress.org and you have it with more control

I’ve always used wordpress for faster indexing in to the search engines, for some reason the search engines love the blog and social media sites. This should be an integral part of you web marketing strategy.

I see people who have some set up that takes part of my blog post and title somehow that is not like a linkback because I have no way to approve it. I think mostly it is ok because I do get an active link back to my post from it.

I tried using your contact form to ask about a problem with the FAQ-tastic plugin but it didn’t work. Hope you’ll respond to this.
I’ve installed the plugin with no problems, but when I add a new group it says its added but it doesn’t show up in the list. I’m using the latest wordpress build. Do you know what the problem might be?

Link building is an important factor for search engine optimization, try to focus on quality rather than quantity. The more quality links you build the higher your site will rank “quality” is a good word to remember when doing anything seo related to your site.

This post appears to get a large ammount of visitors. How do you promote it? It gives a nice individual twist on things. I guess having something useful or substantial to post about is the most important factor.

Forget trying to learn a bunch of complicated SEO tactics. The 80/20 rule applies to SEO. You can get 80 percent of the results with 20 percent of the work. All you need to do is always put your keyword phrase in the titles of your articles. Then place it in each article a few times, and you’re done.
