Internet Marketers – Kill Yourself
Written by Zain on September 5th, 2007{ 5 comments }
As some of my regular readers may know, I’ve recently changed the style of this site to be congruent with the way that I really am and want to be.
Since coming back from the Rich Schefren (aff) Accelerate seminar, I’ve been doing a lot of contemplation and thinking about things that I used to enjoy doing. Things that made me laugh out loud. Things I forgot about but am now revisiting and resurrecting to spice up what could end up a horribly miserable existence unless I pull my finger out…
So anyway, it’s time for a bit of humour from Bill Hicks, I think. And I think it very apt for the direction that I’m now going in.
Some of you guys across the pond might or might not have heard of him. In comedy circles in the early 90s, Bill was *huge* over here in the UK and achieved cult status for his raw style of humour that was often irreverent and extremely political. The reason for this may have been because Bill actually understood “irony” – I know you guys are still getting to grips with understanding this bizarre, quaint and typically English concept!
As always, there is a point to this post. Enjoy the following clip from a show Bill did here in the UK – Internet Marketer’s especially…
(Oh… and it’s NSFW as it has a few expletives in there)
So why did I decide to show you all that clip?
It’s to do with “integrity”.
Recently, I’ve been finding that I really can’t promote just *anything* unless I believe in it. I guess it might be something to do with spending time having a couple of jars, playing pool and chatting with Andy Beard. After returning from the Rich Schefren event and reading Andy’s posts, it reminded me that when I was younger I used to have strong beliefs and ideals.
Something happened along the way and I let things slide. Things became “grey”. In Photoshop terms, it was like getting my convictions and changing the layer opacity down to 20% – it’s still there but not as clear as it used to be.
Looking back over the last year, it was probably the thing that was a major stumbling block for me in terms of trying to promote a product. Even though there are loads of things in the StomperNet Simple program that show you how to grab a product from Clickbank, I just can’t seem to muster enough enthusiasm to follow the job through.
What does this boil down to?
Well, I’m done trying to pitch any old crap to people. I can’t do it anymore. I don’t believe it in.
I never did.
And that’s precisely why it never worked out and possibly why I’ve wasted money on PPC campaigns and time on building stuff that don’t generate any traffic or income.
Have you ever felt that you’re spending time on stuff you’re just *not into*? Well, if you do, then I’d seriously suggest you re-look at what you’re doing and asking yourself if it’s worth your while? Chances are, you’re not playing to your strengths. And as we know, going from great to excellent is a much easier leap than from mediocre to excellent.
Why waste your time on something that is a drain mentally, financially and physically?
Anyway, to remedy this situation I’m going to make all of you, my wonderful readers, a promise:
“I will never promote anything that I really don’t believe in just to make a quick buck and boost sales“. Cross my heart and hope to work for a living..!
A slightly more positive reframe on that is:
“I will only ever show you the best products or programs that I think will help you with growing your business.”
You might have noticed that there’s a new disclosure policy on the main nav. I’ve also started putting (aff) after links in to indicate that these are affiliate links on my site, just in case you don’t want to click on them.
I sincerely hope you find the information I pass on to you useful; my posts enjoyable to read and ultimately that you know, deep down, that my intention is to work from integrity to bring you the best I can.
Well, it’s a shame about Bill. He was a big advocate of smoking but ironically died of cancer when he *QUIT*. Hahaha… I guess Bill would’ve seen the funny side of that.
With a keen observant eye and sharp mind, I’m sure he would’ve been a great Internet Marketer. Boy can that guy segment a market!
Yours Sincerely,
One of Satan’s Little Helpers

Zane,
Whats up man it’s Chris from Rich’s Conference. I went to your site when I got back from the conference but for some reason it wasn’t working… Anyyhow, here I am.
BTW, I have your photo with Rich and Filsaime. I’ll have to send it to you. Send me a quick email.
Cheers,
Chris

[...] Many of the leading books like The Cluetrain Manifesto have a tone and viewpoint that is at best preachy towards marketers and at worst downright hostile. Marketing and the libertarian belief system at the centre of the web community from the EFF to the blogosphere seem to be diametrically opposed. Its kind of like that Bill Hicks sketch that starts off ‘marketers kill themselves’. [...]
